William Montgomery, eldest son of James and Martha Montgomery lived at 160 Snugville Street, Shankill Road, Belfast.

The 1901 Ireland Census has William living at 150 Snugville Street, Shankill Road, Belfast with his father, 30 years, occupation, Brush Maker, mother, 30 years, grandfather, William, 64 years, occupation Brush Maker, 2 brothers, James, 6 years, John, under 1 year, and sister Martha, 2 years.

The 1911 Ireland Census has Williams family living at 29 Snugville Street, Shankill Road, Belfast, father, Brush Maker, mother, Cook Domestic Servant, four brothers, James 16 years, Power Soom Tenter, John, 10 years, Herbert, 6 years, Robert, 5 years, and two sisters, Martha, 12 years, Florence, 9 years.

William was a member of the Orange Order Crystal Spring Temperance Lodge.

Prior to enlistment he was employed at Queens Island.

William joined the Royal Irish Fusiliers.

He was then posted as part of the British Expeditionary Forces to France on the 27th of November 1914

William Montgomery, aged 23 years, was a Private in the 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, when he was Killed In Action on the 16th May 1915, at Festubert, France.

A local newspaper replicated a Post Card sent to his Williams parents informing them of his death, it reads as follows.

A postcard has been received by Mr and Mrs Montgomery, 160 Snugville Street, Belfast, written by a chum of their eldest son, Private William Montgomery, 2nd BATTALION Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, informing them that he was killed in action in Richebourg on the 15th inst. Prior to enlisting last August deceased, who was 23 years of age, was employed at the Queens Island. He was a member of Crystal Springs L.O.L, and was closely connected with Forth River Football Club, of which his father was president for a number of years.
