Life Story

George Prentice, son of Henry and Elizabeth Prentice, lived at 39 Westmoreland Street, Shankill Road, Belfast.

The 1911 Ireland Census records George as living at 27 Dover Street, Shankill Road, with his parents, five brothers and his four sisters. His father is listed as a baker, and George is recorded as a general labourer.

A local paper states that prior to enlisting, George worked for Marsh's Biscuit Factory, but that he joined the colours from Workman Clark and Co. George was a Private in the 9th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers he died of his wounds on the 9th of May 1916.

He bequeathed his belongings to his sister Annie.

He is remembered at Gezaincourt Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
