John joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

John Brown was a Sergeant in A Company 9th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action on the 7th of June 1917 aged 21 years.
A local newspaper states.
Sergeant John Brown, Royal Irish Rifles, who was killed in action on the 7th inst, was 20 years of age, and the youngest son of Mr John Brown, 43 Bellevue Street, Belfast. His officer writes: Your son died gallantly leading his men after his platoon officer had been wounded, reorganising them and leading them on to the German third live. It seems he got a bullet through his head, and was killed instantly. I have recommended him for his in action, and hope the award he justly entitled to will be meted out.
His Soldiers Effects were left to his father John.
He received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914-1915 Star.
He is Remembered at Lone Tree Cemetery, Belgium.
