Samuel Gibson, son of Samuel and Margaret Gibson, lived at 37 Beresford Street, Shankill Road, Belfast, with his wife Sarah and two children.

The 1901 Ireland Census has Samuel living at 31 Snugville Street, Shankill Road, Belfast with his mother and father, occupation Cork Cutter, 3 sisters, Mary, aged 19 years, occupation, Winder, Margaret, 11 years, Jane, under 1 year, and his 3 brothers, David, 21 years, Private in Irish Guards, John, 15 years, Message Boy, and Robert, 7 years. Samuels occupation at this time is given as Cork Cutter at Home.

The 1911 Ireland Census has Samuel living at 50 Berlin Street, Shankill Road, Belfast with his mother, father, Cork Cutter, 2 brothers, John, Machine Fitter, Robert, Machine Fitter, and sister Jane, 10 years. His occupation at this time is given as a Shipyard Labourer.

Samuel married Sarah Elizabeth Gibson, Nee Orr, born 5th August 1894, on the 10th of May 1913.

They had 3 children together, two boys and a girl, sadly the little girl Margaret Jane, having been born on the 4th June 1913, then died on the 2nd February 1915. Their sons were Samuel, born 28th February 1912, and David, born 21st December 1915. A document bluntly points out that Samuel was born out of Wedlock.

Samuel joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France.

Samuel Gibson was a Rifleman in 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action on the 7th June 1917, aged 33 years.

His Soldiers Effects were left to his widow, who was now Sarah Carlisle, having remarried on the 26th April 1919 to James Carlisle.

A Dependant Pension Application Form shows his widow Sarah as claimant.

His Medal Index Card shows us his widow applied for his Medals on the 24th of May 1926.

He is Remembered at Wulverghem-Lindenhoek Road Military Cemetery, Belgium.
