Thomas Harvey Beattie, son of John Herring Beattie and Sarah Beattie, lived at 5 Oregon Street, Greater Shankill, Belfast.

The 1901 Ireland Census has Thomas living at 20 Hooker Street, Belfast with his mother, father, occupation, Machine Fitter, two brothers, William, 9 years, James, 5 years, and his grandmother, Rachel Harvey, 49 years, occupation, Tow Carder.

The 1911 Ireland Census has Thomas living at 3 Oregon Street, Belfast with his mother, father, occupation, Tramways Overhead Linesman's Assistance, three brothers, William John, 19 years, Apprentice Tailor, James, 16 years, Apprentice Plumber, Joseph, 10 years, and grandmother, Rachel Harvey, 58 years, Flax Carder. Thomas occupation at this time is given as a Half Time Cleaner In Mill.

Thomas joined the Royal Irish Fusiliers on the 13th of July 1916.

He was posted as part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Salonika Army, on the 2nd of January 1917.

He was then sent to Egypt on the 1st of October 1917.

Thomas Beattie was a Private in 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers when he Died of Jaundice within the 24th Stationary Hospital Kantara, Egypt, on the 26th August 1919 aged 22 years.

His Service Records show that Thomas had taken ill on two separate occasions dated 4th November 1917 a telegram to his mother reports that he is dangerously ill of Dysentery in 36 Stationary Hospital Cairo. Having recovered, another telegram, dated the 25th August 1919, states that Thomas is now in 24th Stationary Hospital, Kantara, Egypt, dangerously ill with Jaundice. There is also a Post Mortem report within it also.

A local newspaper states.

Pte Thomas Beattie, 2nd Royal Irish Fusiliers, 5 Oregon Street, Belfast, died in Egypt.

Thomas Soldiers Effects were left to his mother.

His Will, signed and dated 30th May 1917, left his Property and Effects to his mother Sarah.

A Pension Application Form shows his mother as claimant also.

A Dependant Pension Application Form shows both his mother and father as claimants.
