Oliver joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 23rd August 1914.

Oliver Moles was a Corporal in the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he Died Of Wounds while a Prisoner of War on the 4th of September 1914 aged 26 years

A local newspaper states.

Mrs Moles, 26 Snugville Street, Belfast, is anxious for information as to the whereabouts of her son, Corporal Oliver Moles, 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, who was reported wounded and missing on September 11th. Nothing has been heard of him since. He was a reservist, and prior to mobilisation was in the employment of Messrs Ewart, Crumlin Road. He was a member of t5he North Belfast Regiment U.V.F

A letter has just been received from the German Association of the Red Cross, stating that Corporal Oliver Moles, 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, died on the 9th September 1914, in a field ambulance at Cattanieres, from wounds received at the Battle of Mons. His mother resides at 256 Snugville Street, Belfast.
