George Henry Green, son of Charles and Jane Green, lived with his wife at 109 Ewarts Row, Greater Shankill, Belfast

Two documents show George as being born in two separate places, the 1901 Ireland Census shows him and some other family members as born in America, whilst his Soldiers Effects show his Place of Birth as Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada

The 1901 Ireland Census has George living at 50 Montreal Street, Shankill, Belfast with his in-laws, the Gastion's. His mother Jane, Occupation, Linen Weaver, two sisters, Lucy, 17 years, Flax Spinner, Mary, 12 years, two brothers, Charles, 15 years, James 9 years, also live within the house. George Place of Birth is registered as America.

The 1911 Ireland Census has George living at 20 Druse Street, Belfast, with his wife Ellen and daughter Elizabeth. His occupation is at this time is given as Labourer in Oil Store

George had married Ellen Green, Nee Henry, within St Marys Church Belfast on the 21st April 1907, They went on to have daughter Elizabeth on the 14th June 1910 and lived at 49 Lanark Street, Belfast.

George Green joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 13th August 1914.

George was a Rifleman in A Company 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action on the 15th of September 1914 at the Battle of the Aisne, France aged 28 years

Another case of Belfast brothers having been killed in action has just been made known, the victims being Private John Green and Private George Henry Green, of the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles. The deceased were sons of the late Mr Charles Green, of the Royal Munster Fusiliers, and of Mrs Jane Green, who reside at 109 Ewarts Row, Belfast. Private John Green was killed at Neuve Chapelle on the 25th October, and his brother, Private George Henry Green, at the Aisne on 15th September. As already indicated, this is the second case of Belfast brothers having fallen, Mr Joseph Gardner, of 39 Hatton Drive, Woodstock Road, having lost two sons - Private A W Gardner, Army Service Corps, and Private Joseph Gardener of the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles

George Pension Application Form shows his wife Ellen as claimant.

A joint Dependant Pension Application Form for George and brother Robert John shows both George wife Ellen and an Annie Green, Unmarried Wife of Robert, as claimants. This form also shows George daughter Elizabeth within it and the fact that George wife had remarried an Archibald McKissack on the 17th of January 1918
