Hugh Sands, son of John and Mary Sands, lived at 113 Fortingale Street, Belfast

Hugh joined the Royal Navy on the 7th July 1910.

He served on a number of ships throughout his career, including the following: H.M.S Pembroke II, H.M.S Diamond, H.M.S St George, H.M.S Hibernia, H.M.S Africa, before ending on H.M.S Aboukir.

Hugh, aged 26 years, was a Stoker 1st Class within the Royal Navy when while serving aboard H.M.S Aboukir he Drowned, Died At Sea, his ship having been attacked and sunk by German Submarine U.9 on the 22nd September 1914
