William was a member of the Orange Order, L.O.L Blue Banner 1942

William joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 13th of August 1914.

William was a Rifleman in D Company 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action near Le Cateau France on the 14th October 1914 aged 29 years

Dependant Pension Application Forms show both his widow Sarah and child Agnes as claimants. By this time Sarah, his wife has remarried Robert James Cunningham on the 29th of August 1918

William received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914 Star

He is Remembered at Le Touret Memorial, France.
