They went on to have three children, their names and dates of births are the following, William James Burrows Smeeth born 8th November 1897, Florence Summer born 12th December 1898, Rowland Smeeth born 16th December 1900.

A Daniel Smeeth, 29 years, Lance Corporal R.I.R, AND Robert McCallen, 22 years, Tent Maker, are registered as Boarders within the house

The 1911 Ireland Census has James living at 5 Malvern Street, Belfast with his wife, two sons, William J B, 13 years, Roland B, 10 years and daughter Florence S, 12 years

James joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 5th October 1915.

James was a Rifleman within 15th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action on the 21st March 1918 aged 41 years.

James Will, signed and dated the 14th May 1916 stated the following, In the event of my death I give the property and effects to my wife Mary Ann Smeeth 7 Malvern St Belfast.

His Pension Application Form shows his widow as claimant.
