The 1911 Ireland Census has George living at 39 Bristol Street, Shankill, Belfast, with his mother, father, Labourer Ship Yard, 4 brothers, Stephen, 21 years, Brush Maker, William, 13 years, Joseph Alexander, 9 years, John, 7 years, and two sisters, Susannah, 18 years, Yarn Reeler, and Elizabeth, 5 years

George signed the Ulster Covenant on the 28th of September 1912, Ulster Day, within the City Hall, Belfast

He married Agnes Anne Tully, Nee Haveron, on the 17th August 1917 within Saint Anne's Church, Belfast. George obviously would not have known at the time, but he was actually marrying Agnes the day after the Death In Action of his brother William

George was a member of the Orange Order, Luther L.O.L 492

George joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 4th of October 1915.

George was a Rifleman in A Company 15th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when as a Prisoner Of War he Died of Heart Failure, due to weakening after dysentery, within Bavarian War Hospital, Section 62, Hautmont, on the 25th August 1918 aged 23 years

George Soldiers Effects were left to his widow Agnes.

Dependant Pension Application Forms not only show his wife Agnes as claimant, but that she had remarried a Francis Keenan on the 5th of February 1920 also

His other Brother Joseph served as a Private within the Royal Air Force.

A brother in law, John Davis Briggs, married to his sister Margaret, also served within the Royal Irish Rifles.

Another sad aspect of this young man's life is the fact that his mother Susannah died on the 11th of November 1918, on what became known as Armistice Day, as the War To End All Wars, was brought to a close. She had given and lost three of her sons. His father then died on the 20th October 1921.

George received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914-1915 Star.

.

He is Remembered at Hautmont Communal Cemetery, France.
