The 1901 Ireland Census has Isaac's family living at 106 Clonard Gardens, Belfast, father, occupation, Linen Spinning Master, mother, four sisters, Agnes, 11 years, Dora, 9 years, Grace G, 6 years, Johanna, 4 years, and his two brothers, Thomas 14 years, and Alexander, 13 years.
The 1911 Ireland Census has Isaac's family now living at 105 Tennent Street, Shankill Road, Belfast, father, Spinning Master, mother, and three sisters, Dorathea, 19 years, Hem Stitcher, Grace Gill, 16 years, Hem Stitcher and Johnna, 14 years, Hem Stitcher.
Isaac lived with his wife Ellen Duncan Gibson and two children at 38 Sidney Street, Saltcoats, Ayrshire.
Prior to joining Isaac was employed as mechanic at J TM Greeves Spinning Mill, one of three flax mills owned by brothers John Thomas Malcolm Greeves at Cupar Street, Conway Street and Northumberland Street, all within the Greater Shankill Area.
On the 4th of March 1902 Isaac joined the Royal Navy.
Throughout his naval career Isaac served aboard many ships, though in later life he developed an interest in submarines and in diving and salvage work, at one point working as an expert diving instructor at his base in Devonport.
Isaac Gibson, aged 39 years, Chief Engine Room Artificer, 2nd Class, Royal Navy, was Lost At Sea on the 31st January 1918, while serving on board the submarine H.M.S K17. His submarine was taking part in routine exercises among the British Grand Fleet in the North Sea at the time.

Another papers states that Isaac's brother Thomas also served.
His sister Agnes married a John Cameron Mackenzie, Australian Army, he too was Killed In Action on the 1st May 1918.
