Joseph Campbell, son of John and Agnes Gertrude Campbell, Step son of Mary Jane Campbell, lived at 108 Palmer Street, Shankill, Belfast

Joseph joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 6th November 1914.

Joseph was a Lance Corporal in 1st Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he Died Of Wounds Received In Action on the 9th May 1915 aged 24 years

A local newspaper states the following

.

Mr J Campbell, 108 Palmer Street, Belfast has been notified that his son Joseph a lance-corporal on the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, died on the 9th inst, of wounds received in action. Deceased had five years service, and came over from Aden with his battalion, spending a few days at home prior to leaving for France. Another son of Mr Campbell's is serving with the 3rd Connaught Rangers. Two half-brother of deceased are along with the colours, James and Leo Arthurs, the former with the Black Watch at the front and the latter with the 3rd Leinster Regiment at Cork

Josephs Soldiers Effects were left to his father.

His Will, signed and date 20th April 1915 states the following, I leave all my property and personal effects to my father Mr John Campbell.

A Pension Application Form shows his father and stepmother as claimants.

Dependant Pension Application Forms show his father and stepmother as claimants for him, his brother Joseph Campbell and a John Tracey, their uncle, and stepmothers brother
