David McDonald, brother of William and John McDonald, was connected to 3 Israel Street, Shankill, Belfast, 28 Rutherglen Street, Shankill Belfast, and 104 Tennent Street, Shankill Road, Belfast.

David joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 6th November 1914.

David was a Lance Corporal in 1st Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action on the 9th May 1915.

David's Soldiers Effects were left to his brother William.

Within his Will are letters from his sister in law Mrs Catherine McDonald and a Mrs Jane Latimer to confirm they witnessed David stating that he had left everything to his brother William should anything happen to him.

Catherine's letter was counter signed and Witnessed by Charles W Majury JP for the City of Belfast.

Jane's letter was counter signed and Witnessed by the Rev W J Calvin of Congregational Church, Tennent Street, Congregational Manse, Woodvale Road.

Both the Rev Calvin and Charles Majury JP sent independent letters also to confirm the trustworthiness of both women.

David received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914 Star.

He is Remembered at Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium.
