Robert Millar, son of William and of Matilda Millar ( now Freel ), stepson of James, lived at 42 Vistula Street, Belfast

Robert joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 8th April 1915.

Robert was a Rifleman in C Company 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action on the 9th May 1915 aged 17 years.

A local newspaper states

.

A letter from Sergeant Tweedie, 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, received in Belfast yesterday, states that Private Robert Millar, D Company, of 42 Vistula Street, was killed in the trenches on the 7th inst. Mrs Millar has not yet received confirmation from the War Office.

Robert Soldiers Effects were left to his mother Mrs Matilda Freel, previously Millar.

His Will, signed and dated 9th May 1915 stated the following, In the event of my death I give the whole of my property and effects to my Mother 42 Vistula Street, Belfast.

A Pension Application Form shows his mother as claimant and as living at 14 Harrison Street, Crumlin Road, Belfast.

Dependant Pension Application Forms show his mother as claimant also.

Robert received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1915 Star.

He is Remembered at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
