Walter Mitchell, son of Thomas and Jane Mitchell, is connected through his brother William Mitchell to 9 Israel Street, Shankill, Belfast

Walter joined the Royal Dublin Fusiliers.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 23rd October 1914.

Walter was a Corporal in 2nd Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers when he was Killed In Action on the 24th May 1915 aged 32 years

.

Scotland, Ireland and Wales, Militia Attestation Papers, 1800-1915 documents show that Walter had joined the Royal Irish Rifles, Rifleman 3784, and served from the 3rd March 1889 to the 19th December 1899, when he then joined the Regular Army, the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers on the 20th December 1899.

Walter had served in the South African Campaign, in India and Egypt
