James Patrick Smith, son of Alexander and Susan Smith, lived with his wife at 10 Peters Place, Belfast

James joined the Royal Irish Rilfes.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 15th April 1915.

James was a Rifleman in 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action on the 12th of June 1915

A local newspaper states.

Mrs Smith, of 10 Peters Place, Belfast has been notified by the War Office that her husband, Rifleman James P Smith, 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, was killed in action on June 12. Prior to being called up on the reserve deceased was employed at Ballymurphy Brickworks. He leaves two children

James Soldiers Effects were left to his sister Mrs Susan Cormacan, Nee Smith.

His Dependant Pension Application Forms show his wife Mrs Sarah Smith as claimant, however they then go on to show that she was not his wife, terming her as his ( unmarried wife), when explaining she had remarried and her new name was Mackin. Her address at this time is given as 4 Wilsons Place, Carrickfergus.

James received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1915 Star.

He is Remembered at Perth Cemetery (China Wall ), Belgium.
