Thomas joined the Royal Irish Rilfes.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 12th November 1914.

Thomas was a Rifleman in 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he Died Of Wounds he'd received in action, within No 2 Clearing Station, France, on the 19th June 1915 aged 21 years.

Rifleman Thomas J Dalton, 2nd Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles, was killed in action on 19th ult. He was a son of Mr Thomas J Dalton 40 Hopeton Street, Belfast.

Thomas Soldiers Effects were left to his mother.

His Will, signed and dated the 17th November 1914 states the following, In the event of my death I give the whole of my property to my mother Mrs M Dalton 48 Hopeton St, off Shankill Road, Belfast.

A Pension Application Form shows his mother as claimant.

Dependant Pension Application Forms show both his mother and father as claimants.

Thomas received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914 Star.

He is Remembered at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, France.
