James Devine, son of Patrick and Mary Devine, lived with his wife and child at 16 Lower Urney Street, Shankill, Belfast

James had married Margaret Devine, Nee Curry, on the 24th January 1914 within Saint Peters Roman Catholic Church Belfast. They went on to have daughter Kathleen born 18th October 1915

The 1901 Ireland Census has James living at 8 Riley's Place, Cormac, Antrim, with his mother, father, occupation, Carpenter, sister Kathleen, 7 years, and brother Paul, 1 year.

The 1911 Ireland Census has James living at 52 Slate Street, Falls, Belfast with his mother, father, occupation, Car Driver, three sisters, Kathleen, 17 years, Damask Weaver, Josephine, 9 years, Lily, 7 years, and two brothers, Paul, 11 years, Robert, 5 years. The Census also shows nine Boarders within the house also, the names etc of which you can read within his profile

James joined the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

He was posted as part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on the 24th May 1915.

James was a Corporal 1st Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was Killed In Action at the Dardanelles on the 20th June 1915 aged 20 years.

Mrs Devine, of 16 Lower Urney Street, Belfast, has received official notification that her husband, Corporal James Devine, 4th (attached 1st), Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, was killed in action on 20th June at the Dardanelles. Before the war Corporal Devine was employed by Messrs Cantrell and Cochrane. His mother resides at 52 Slate Street, Belfast.

Another states.

Mrs Devine, of 16 Lower Urney Street, Belfast, has received official notification that her husband, Corporal James Devine, 4th (attached 1st), Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, was killed in action on 20th June at the Dardanelles. Deceased was employed by Messrs Cantrell and Cochrane's. He was stationed for some time with the 4th Battalion in Counties Donegal and Derry, and left for the East some months ago. His mother resides at 52 Slate Street, Belfast.

A Pension Application Form shows his mother Mary as claimant.

Dependant Pension Application Forms state the following, Mary Devine, Guardian of motherless child Kathleen, 21 Crocus Street, Springfield Road, Belfast.

James received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1915 Star.

He is Remembered at Lancashire Landing Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
