Samuel was a Rifleman in 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he Died Of Wounds on the 21st June 1915 aged 17 years .

The death is reported from wounds on 21st ult, of Rifleman Samuel Maynard (8895), 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles. Deceased was a son of Mr Robert Maynard, 42 Joseph Street, Belfast.

Samuels Soldiers Effects were left to a Miss Josephine Bannister.

His Will states the following, I hereby leave all I possess to Miss Josie Bannister 10 Bishop Street, Dublin.

A Pension Application Form shows his mother as claimant.

Dependant Pension Application Forms show his mother as claimant, and that she now lived at 99 Argyle Street, Shankill Road at the time of applying.

Samuel received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1915 Star.

He is Remembered at Calais Southern Cemetery, France.
