The 1911 Ireland Census has David's family living ay 20 Blenheim Street, Belfast

David joined the Royal Irish Rilfes.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 3rd February 1915.

David was a Rifleman in 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he Died Of Wounds Received In Action on the 5th July 1915 aged 20 years.

Mrs Hazel of 66 Belgrave Street, Belfast, has been advised by the War Office that her brother Rifleman David Ditty Trimble, 2nd Batt Royal Irish Rifles, died on July 5 in No18 General Hospital, Etaples, of wounds received in action. Prior to enlisting at the outbreak of war deceased was in the employment of Messrs Samuel Fee and Sons rent agents

David's Service Records show that he had enlisted on the 28th of August 1914, and served as 11071 Rifleman David Ditty 6th Reserve Service Battalion Royal Irish Rifles.

However he had been discharged, Medically Unfit For Service, Para 393 III (c) Kings Regulations on the 2nd October 1914, and Varicose Veins are included within Cause of Objection.

This is when David must have rejoined under what was his mother's maiden name before marrying his father.

David Soldiers Effects were left to his sister Mary Jane Hazel.

His Will signed and dated 1st February 1915 states the following, In the event of my death I give the whole of my effects and property to Miss Mary Jane Hazel 66 Belgrave Street, Belfast.

A Pension Application Form shows his sister Violet as claimant.

Dependant Pension Application Forms show his sister Mary Jane as claimant for sister and guardian of sister Violet A Ditty.
