EX-CLIFTONVILLE FOOTBALLER KILLED.

Mr Joseph Hall, 670 Carlow Street, Belfast, has received official notification that his brother Corporal William Hall, 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, was killed in action in Flanders on the 31st ult. Deceased had recently been promoted while in active service. He went through the South African campaign, and re-enlisted at the beginning of the present war. He formerly played for Cliftonville F.C, Belfast, and also for the regiment team which won the Irish Army Cup. He was a member of the Irish army team that first beat England at the Association football in the Orange River Colony.

Williams Soldiers Effects were left to his brother Joseph and sister in-law Elizabeth Hall.

Dependant Pension Application Forms show a Miss Maria Hall and his sister in law Mrs Elizabeth Jane Hall as claimants.

His British Medal Index Card shows that a Private J D Hall applied for Williams 1914 Star on the 1st of November 1918. The address given at the time of applying was Miss J Hall 51 Boyd St, Belfast Ireland.

William received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914 Star.

He is Remembered at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
