Pension Documents show Joseph with a wife, Ann Boston, and that as well as having a step child, Evelyn Bradley born 11th March 1909, they had two children, Joseph Boston born 22nd February 1914, and Leslie Kendall Boston born 6th March 1915 also.

Joseph joined The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment..

He was posted as part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on the 15th June 1915.

Joseph was a Private in 6th Battalion The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment when he was Killed In Action on the 9th August 1915 aged 24 years.

Intimation has been received of the death in action of two brothers, Samuel and Joseph Boston. The first named, who was serving with the South Lancashire Regiment, was killed on July 15, while his brother, who belonged to the North Lancashire Regiment, had been missing at the Dardanelles since August 9 1915, and is now officially reported as having been killed on or about that date. They were sons of Mr Samuel Boston 22 Bromley Street, Belfast

Scotland, Ireland and Wales, Militia Attestation Papers, 1800-1915 show Joseph joined the Royal Irish Rifles Reserves on the 31st August 1907 having been removed from the Gordon Highlanders due to claims of Under Age in June 1907. His address at this time was 127 Tennent Street, Shankill Road, Belfast.

A Pension Application Form shows an Annie Boston, Widow, as claimant. Her address is given as 20 Stoddart Rod, Liverpool at time of claiming.

Dependant Pension Application Forms show Ann as claimant for herself and three children, one of which is described as his Stepchild.
