His family then moved to the Shankill Area, Belfast, Ireland sometime before 1901

Samuel married Esther Margaret Boston, Nee Walker, on the 8th July 1910 within Christ Church, Church of Ireland, Church Belfast. They went on to have a daughter, Christina May Boston on the 24th November 1913. His address at the time of being married was 93 Riga Street, Shankill, Belfast, Esther's 23 Orkney Street, Shankill, Belfast.

Samuel joined the South Lancashire Regiment on the 7th of July 1900 in Belfast, Ireland for a period of 7/5 years.

He was then transferred to the Army Reserves on the 6th July 1908.

Samuel then reengaged on the 7th July 1912.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 8th September 1914.

On the 16th June 1915 Samuel was wounded in action, Gassed, and admitted to No 9 Field Ambulance.

He rejoined his Battalion on the 5th July 1915.

Samuel was then readmitted to No 10 Casualty Station suffering from Tachycardia on the 6th of July 1915, before being sent to 18 General Hospital on the 7th July 1915 suffering from Dyspepsia.

On the 17th July 1915 Samuel received 5 days furlough to England.

He then received furlough to England once again on the 28th of January 1916

Samuel was a Private in 2nd Battalion South Lancashire Regiment when he was Killed In Action on the 15th July 1916

Intimation has been received of the death in action of two brothers, Samuel and Joseph Boston. The first named, who was serving with the South Lancashire Regiment, was killed on July 15, while his brother, who belonged to the North Lancashire Regiment, had been missing at the Dardanelles since August 9 1915, and is now officially reported as having been killed on or about that date. They were sons of Mr Samuel Boston 22 Bromley Street, Belfast
