He was posted as part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on the 26th July 1915.

Thomas was a Corporal in 1st Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was Killed In Action on the 14th August 1915 aged 21 years.

Official intimation is to hand that Corporal Thomas D Lewis, 4th (attached 1st) Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, was killed in action on 14th August at the Dardanelles. Before enlisting deceased was a driller employed by Messrs Workman Clark And Co. Another brother, James, is a corporal, also on the Inniskillings, stationed in County Donegal. Their parents reside at 6 Matchett Street, Belfast.
