The 1911 Ireland Census has William living at 39 Bristol Street, Shankill, Belfast, with his mother, father, Labourer Ship Yard, 4 brothers, Stephen, 21 years, Brush Maker, George, Labourer In Mill, Joseph Alexander, 9 years, John, 7 years, and two sisters, Susannah, 18 years, Yarn Reeler, Elizabeth, 5 years

William signed the Ulster Covenant on the 28th of September 1912, Ulster Day, within the Albert Hall, Shankill Mission, Belfast

William joined the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

He was posted on the 18th July 1915.

William was a Private in C Company 8th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he was Killed on the 16th of August 1917 in France aged 21 years

A local newspaper states.

TULLY- Pte Wm Tully R Innis Fus, previously reported missing, was killed in action. His father, Mr George Tully, resides at 95 Bristol Street, Belfast

Another sad aspect of this young man's life is the fact that his mother Susannah died on the 11th of November 1918, on what became known as Armistice Day, as the War To End All Wars, was brought to a close. She had given and lost three of her sons. His father then died on the 20th October 1921.

William received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914-1915 Star

.

He is Remembered Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
