James George, son of James and Elizabeth George, lived with his wife and children at 5 Tobergill Street, Shankill Road, Belfast

The 1911 Ireland Census has James living at 26 Bristol Street, Belfast with his wife and daughter Janet. His occupation is at this time is given as Hand Driller

James had married Mary Charlotte George, Nee Saunders, on the 30th March 1910 within Holy Trinity Church, Belfast. They went on to have three children, their names and dates of births are as follows: Jennet Martin born 22nd of December 1910, Fanny born 23rd March 1912, Anna born 21st October 1913

.

James joined the Royal Irish Rifles in Glasgow on the 9th of October 1900.

He applied and was allowed to extend and complete 8 years service on the 1st of April 1904.

He was granted two Good Conduct Badges on the 12th October 1905.

He was posted to India on the 9th of November 1907.

On the 28th of March 1908 James was appointed a Lance Corporal, however he reverted to Private once again on the 20th of May 1908.

James then transferred to Army Reserves on the 8th of October 1908.

He Re-Engaged the Reserves for a further 4 years on the 22nd July 1912.

James was Mobilized in Galway on the 7th of August 1914.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 14th August 1914.

James was a Private in 2nd Battalion Connaught Rangers when within No 11 General Hospital Boulogne he Died Of Wounds, received in action to his right shoulder, on the 29th of October 1914, aged 38 years.

His wife was officially notified be telegram on the 3rd December 1914

A local newspaper states.

Mrs George 5 Tobergill Street, Belfast, has received a telegram from the War Office that her husband, Private James George, Connaught Rangers, had died of wounds. Deceased, who was a reservist, was a driller in the Queens Island

.

James Soldiers Effects were left to his widow.

Dependant Pension Application Forms show James wife and children as claimants.

His CWGC Certificate shows that James wife had moved to Tullynore, Hillsborough, County Down

James received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914 Star.

He is Remembered at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.
