Robert Stannage, son of William John Stannage, lived at 76 Brookmount Street, Shankill Road, Belfast

Robert had married Bridget Stannage, Nee Conlon, on the 26th December 1905 within St Annes Church, Belfast. George occupation at this time is given as Bugler Royal Irish Rifles. They went on to have a daughter, Kathleen Violet, on the 21st Octobers 1907.

Robert joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 6th November 1914.

Robert was a Lance Corporal in 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action in France on the 16th November 1914

A local newspaper states.

Mrs Stannage has been informed by the War Office that her husband, Corporal Robert Stannage, 2st Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, was killed in action on the 16th ult. Deceased, who was a native of Newtownards, leaves three children. His relatives reside at 76 Brookmount Street, Belfast.

This article states that George had three children, however none of his documentation does supports this

George Soldiers Effects were left to his widow.

His Will, signed and dated 3rd November 1914 states the following, In the event of my death I give the whole of my property and effects to my wife, Mrs Robert Stannage 76 Brookmount Street, off Shankill Road, Belfast.

A Dependant Pension Application Form shows both his widow and daughter Violet as claimants

Robert received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914 Star

.

He is Remembered at Pont-du-Hem Military Cemetery, La Gorgue, France.
