Bowie had married Elizabeth Anderson, Nee Brownlee, on the 24th December 1900 within Saint Annes Church, Church Of Ireland, Belfast.

They went on to have five children, their names and dates of births are as follows, Edward Albert born 8thMay 1901, Margaret born 28th January 1906, David born 10th July 1908, Elizabeth born4th June 1911, John Bowie born 24th November 1914.

Sadly his son and namesake John Bowie born 24th November 1914, must never had the opportunity of meet his father.

Bowie joined the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 23rd August 1914.

Bowie was a Private in 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he Died Of Wounds at Armentieres, France on the 17th November 1914 aged 34 years

Information has been received by Mrs Elizabeth Anderson, 3 Paris Street, Belfast, that her husband, Private Bowie Anderson, 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, died of wounds at Armentieres on the 17th ult. Deceased mother lives at 35 Matchett Street
