Robert joined the Royal Irish Rifles.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 2nd of April 1915.

Robert was a Rifleman in the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles when he was Killed In Action on the 20th April 1915 aged 16 years

A local newspaper states.

Official intimation has been received that Private Robert Andrews, 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, was killed in action on the 20th ult, at Hill 60. Prior to enlisting at the outbreak of war deceased was employed at Messrs Combe Barbour's. His parents reside at 62 Mountjoy Street, Belfast

Roberts Soldiers Effects were left to his mother.

A signed Will states the following, In the event of my death I leave the whole of my property and effects to my mother, Mrs A Andrews 62 Mountjoy Street, off Shankill Road, Belfast.

His Pension Application Form shows his mother as claimant.
