Edward joined the Australian Infantry on the 28th September 1914 at Mildura, Victoria, Australia.

He was posted as part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on the 5th April 1915.

Edward was a Private in C Company 6th Battalion Australian Infantry when he Died Of Wounds received in Action aboard the Transporter Ionian, and at Sea, on the 27th April 1915 aged 26 years.

ULSTER COLONIAL LOSSES.

Official intimation has been received that Private Edward Nixon, 6th Infantry Battalion Australian Expeditionary Forced, formerly of Ballygomartin Road, Belfast, died on April 27 of wounds received in action at the Dardanelles. Deceased was a son of Mr and Mrs Nixon 21 Eccles Street, Belfast, and left the city two and a half years ago for Australia, enlisting there at the outbreak of war. While resident in Belfast he was employed by Messrs Thornton And Co, Donegall Place

.

An extract from an Australian Army Service Record letter to his father states the following also.

Dear Sir, with reference to the report of the regrettable loss of the late No 2068, Private E Nixon, 6th Battalion, I am now in receipt of advice which shows that he died at sea, between Gallipoli and Alexandria, on the 27th April 1915, of wounds received in action at Gallipoli

.

Edward received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914-1915 Star.

.

He is Remembered at Lone Pine Memorial, Turkey.
