George McCauley, son of Samuel and Mary McAuley, lived at 152 Sugarfield Street, Shankill Road, Belfast.

The 1901 Ireland Census has George living at 3 Milltown (South Side) (Dungannon, Co Tyrone) with his mother, father, occupation Labourer, and three sisters, Margaret, 2 years, Mary, 1 year, Lizzie, under 1 year.

The 1911 Ireland Census has George living at 8 Milltown Street (North Side) (Dungannon, Co Tyrone) with his mother, father, labourer, four sister, Margaret, occupation, Rover, Mary Ellen, Annie, Sarah, and brother, Samuel, 6 years. George occupation at this time is given as Hacker.

George joined the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers.

He was posted as part of the British Expeditionary Force to France on the 5th October 1915.

George McCauley was a Private in C Company, 9th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers when he Died of Wounds on the 17th of August 1917 aged 20 years.

A local newspaper states.

Private George McAuley, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, who resided with his parents at 152 Sugarfield Street Belfast, prior to joining the army, died of wounds on the 17th inst.

George Soldiers Effects were left to his father Samuel.

His Pension Applications Form shows his mother Mary as claimant.

A Dependant Application Form shows both parents as claimants. His mother is shown as having died on the 24th of December 1925 on the form also.

He received the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914-1915 Star.

He is Remembered at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
